My passion for knives began when I was a child — carrying a pocketknife was part of my everyday life in the mountains. In the late 1980s, I started restoring knife and folder handles, and by the end of the ’90s I was making my first pieces. Back then, information was hard to come by, so I had to research materials, steels, types of leather, and techniques on my own through forums and direct contacts.
From the early 2000s, I began working on commission for collectors and hunters, designing custom-made knives, and in 2004 I took part in my first local fairs. From 2008 onward, I attended national-level professional knife shows.
I’ve had the honor of crafting knives for many of the most renowned chefs in the Basque Country, including several Michelin-starred ones. I’ve always paid close attention to both the beauty and the ergonomics and functionality of each piece.
For seven years I ran my own store, selling both handmade and industrial knives. I also served as president of the ACAE (Spanish Association of Artisan Knifemakers) for four years, during which the association organized the Madrid Knife Show until 2019.
From 2020 to 2024, the fair continued independently thanks to the joint initiative of Carlos Merino, J.M. Galocha, and myself. In 2025 I had to step back due to health reasons, with the hope of returning when possible.
I’ve designed knives for several brands in the industry, contributing my own aesthetic and functional vision. In recent years, I’ve specialized in crafting handmade folders, and I rarely accept commissions now, as for me, each piece is like a painting to an artist — a unique work born from a creative impulse.
I’ve also published four books about knifemaking, which have served as a guide and reference for many artisans and enthusiasts.
